Something that just may be unpostable

I have found out a very depressing fact about one of my all time favourite writers. I was all ready to come and post it here but now I can not.
This writer is dead and I really wonder whether or not posting it will make any difference, or if it will just make people not like him. I also don't know how substantiated this claim is but several different respectable resources have said it so I guess it must be true to a certain extent.
I find it so sad that this element of this writer is apparently true, but I also feel that I do not want to add anymore shame to his name then may already be there. He has been dead for 16 years and I think that I will just leave well enough alone.
And I do not like him as a writer any less, I just feel bad that he may not have been as good a person as I assumed he was.
